８月２日：釧路みなと祭り：
　初日のメインは大漁ばやしパレード。
大きな山車を大勢の人達で右へ左へ動かす。 日本舞踊花柳流、寿登芳会の花柳寿芳貴さん。 私たちの先生です。私は果林ちゃんと呼ぶ。 耐震岸壁には巡視船宗谷が祭りを盛り上げる。 露店がすごく多い。若い人達もたくさん。 最後は花火でフィナーレ。

Kushiro Port Festival.
　The main event on the first day is the Great Fishing Song Parade. A large float is moved left and right by many people. Ms. Jyohoki Hanayagi of the Hanayagi School of Japanese Dance, Jyutoho Association, will be performing. She is our teacher, and I call her Karin-chan. The patrol boat Souya will enliven the festival at the earthquake-resistant quay. There are many food stalls, and lots of young people attend. The finale is a fireworks display.




８月２日：ヨシ植え：
　幌呂地区湿原再生体験会の記念写真。
釧路はこういう地球規模の自然を楽しむ事が出来るのが良いです。

８月３日：釧路みなと祭り：
　２日目は市民踊りパレードが北大通りで開催される。
練習した３つの踊りの本番。 日差しが出て、ちょっと暑い。 ２５℃なので他の地域と比べれば贅沢な涼しさかな。 楽しいよ。

Kushiro Minato Festival.
　On the second day, the citizen dance parade is held on Kitaoodori Street. This is the main event where we perform the three dances we've practiced. The sun is out, and it's a bit hot. It's 25°C, which is quite cool compared to other regions. It's fun!




８月３日：釧路みなと祭り：
　市民踊りパレードでいろんな人達とお会いしました。
釧路としてはとても賑やかなイベントです。

Kushiro Minato Festival.
　I met various people at the citizen dance parade. It’s a very lively event for Kushiro.




８月４日：釧路みなと祭り：
　祭り最終日は人々の数がちょっと寂しい。 おまけに曇り。気温は低めだけど湿度がある。
耐震岸壁には若い人々が休んでいる。 巡視船宗谷の見学が出来た。 乗組員の人が写真を撮ってくれた。 操縦室からの眺めると幣舞橋が小さく見える。

Kushiro Minato Festival
　On the last day of the festival, the number of people is a bit sparse. Moreover, it's cloudy. The temperature is on the low side, but it's humid. Young people are resting at the earthquake-resistant wharf. We were able to tour the patrol ship Soya. A crew member took a picture for us. From the pilothouse, Nusamai Bridge looks small.




８月５日：北大通：
　釧路のメイン通りです。
一番奥が釧路駅。 釧路川と幣舞橋。 左側がフィッシャーマンズワーフＭＯＯ。 右側が宿泊しているドーミーインプレミアム。 この大通りで踊りパレードをします。 いわゆる旧市街、ダウンタウンです。

Kitaoodori.
　This is the main street in Kushiro. At the far end is Kushiro Station. The Kushiro River and Nusamai Bridge. On the left side is the Fisherman's Wharf MOO. On the right side is the hotel I'm staying at, Dormy Inn Premium. We will have a dance parade on this main street. This is the so-called old town, downtown area.

８月７日：釧路湿原・川レンジャー・標茶アドベンチャースクール：
　水質調査と水生生物調査を行います。
小学生と一緒に勉強します。 面白い企画だね。 サポート部隊がたくさんいます。 この当たりの釧路川は奇麗な水質で水生生物もそれを証明しています。

Kushiro Wetland River Rangers - Shibecha Adventure School
　We will conduct water quality and aquatic organism surveys. We will study together with elementary school students. It's an interesting project. There are plenty of support teams. The Kushiro River in this area has clean water quality, and the aquatic organisms prove it.




８月８日：車検：
　いつも釧路で車検をとります。
陸運局で検査ラインにのせます。 初めてですかって聞かれて。 いいえ、でも２年前だから忘れていると答える。 なので検査員の人がずっと横についていてくれた。 １５分で無事通過。合格！ 車検証はずいぶん小さくなった。 シールの張る場所が変わった。 大昔は真中、次は助手席側、去年から運転手側。？？？

Vehicle Inspection
　I always get my vehicle inspected in Kushiro. I take it to the inspection line at the Land Transport Bureau. They asked if it was my first time. I said, "No, but it's been two years, so I've forgotten how it goes." Because of that, the inspector stayed with me the whole time. I passed without any issues in 15 minutes. Success! The vehicle inspection certificate has become quite small. The placement of the sticker has changed. A long time ago, it was in the center, then on the passenger side, and since last year, it's been on the driver's side. ???
　


８月１０日：春採湖・湖水祭り：
　街中にある春採湖。
自然の中でライブコンサート。 釧路に移住した東潤子さんの歌声が素敵でした。 同時に開催しているFM釧路祭りでお手伝いしている京子ちゃん。

Lake Harutori and the Lake Festival
　Lake Harutori, located in the heart of the city. A live concert in the midst of nature. Junko Higashi, who moved to Kushiro, had a beautiful singing voice. Kyoko-chan, who was helping out at the simultaneously held FM Kushiro Festival.




８月１１日：うどん：
　釧路の丸亀製麺。
この万願寺唐辛子の天ぷらがいい。 つまり縁起物か。

Udon.
　At Marugame Seimen in Kushiro.
This Manganji pepper tempura is great. In other words, it's a good luck charm.
　


８月１３日：カレーショップ・インディアン：
　帯広のソウルフード・インディアン。
安くて旨いカレーです。 釧路にも２店舗あります。 キャンピングカーで北海道を回っているスキー仲間のご夫婦が釧路に来てくれました。 初めてのインディアンを食べてもらいました。 皆が大好きなカレーです。

Curry Shop Indian
　Indian is the soul food of Obihiro?delicious and affordable curry. There are also two locations in Kushiro. A couple of our skiing friends who are traveling around Hokkaido in a camper van came to visit us in Kushiro. We treated them to Indian curry for the first time. It's a curry that everyone loves.
　


８月１７日：新釧（シンセン）花火大会：

　広い河原で優雅に寝ころびながら。
　釧路らしいジリという小雨模様。
　すっかり濡れてしまいさむい。
　それでも素敵な夜です。

　　Shinsen fireworks.
　The first summer fireworks festival in Kushiro takes place on the Shin-Kushiro River.
　You can lie down gracefully on the wide riverbank.
　With a drizzle that is typical of Kushiro,
　you end up completely soaked and cold.
　But it’s still a wonderful night.



８月１７日：新釧花火大会：
　スターマインは賑やかでいいね。
透明傘が似合うジリの釧路の花火見物。

Shinsen Fireworks Festival.
　The star mine fireworks are lively and delightful. Watching the fireworks in Kushiro's drizzle, with a clear umbrella that suits the atmosphere.




８月１９日：新生さんま：
　今年のさんまはまずまずとのこと。
初物としては大きいものもあります。 小さいものは１尾１００円からありました。 この大きさなら美味しいと思います。

Fresh Sanma (Pacific Saury).
　This year's sanma is said to be quite good. Some of the first catches are quite large. The smaller ones were available for as little as 100 yen per fish. I think this size will be tasty.
　


８月１９日：タンチョウ：
　釧路動物園の獣医さんの講演会です。
タンチョウ数は増加しているけれど事故も増えているそうです。 自動車交通事故、電線衝突、列車事故など。 個体が大きいのでレスキューが非常に困難。 くちばしで突かれ危険だそうです。

Red-Crowned Cranes.
　This is a lecture by a veterinarian from Kushiro Zoo. Although the number of red-crowned cranes is increasing, accidents are also on the rise. These include car accidents, collisions with power lines, and train accidents. Due to their large size, rescue operations are extremely difficult. It is also said to be dangerous as they can peck with their beaks.




８月２０日：釧路北海盆踊り大会：
　いつものように北大通で開催されました。
残念なことは年々参加者が減少している。 涼しい釧路で皆で踊る。 楽しいよ。

The Kushiro Hokkai Bon Dance Festival.
　As always, it was held on Kita-Odori Street. Unfortunately, the number of participants has been decreasing year by year. Dancing together in the cool air of Kushiro is fun.




８月２１日：久著呂川自然再生の見学ツアー：
　湿原の乾燥化を防いで美しい釧路湿原を保つ。
国や北海道で再生事業が行われています。 久著呂川の上流から湿原の入口付近までの状況を勉強させてもらいました。 熊も出没する地域です。 タンチョウもたくさん見ることができました。 いつまでも美しい自然を楽しみたい。

A Study Tour of the Kuchoro River Nature Restoration.
　Efforts are being made by the national and Hokkaido governments to prevent the drying of the wetlands and to preserve the beautiful Kushiro Marsh. We learned about the conditions from the upstream of the Kuchoro River to the area near the entrance of the marsh. This is a region where bears also appear. We were able to see many red-crowned cranes. I want to enjoy this beautiful nature forever.




８月２１日：久著呂川自然再生見学ツアー：
　胴長を着て冷たい水に膝まで入ります。
そんな写真を頂きました。有難う御座います。
流れが速く、川底の石がゴロゴロ浮いてちょっと怖い。
でも楽しかった。

I participated in a guided tour to observe the natural restoration of the Kuchoro River, where I got into the water. I wore waders and stepped into the cold water up to my knees. Thank you very much for the photo. The current was swift, and the stones at the riverbed were tumbling, which was a bit scary. But I had fun.

８月２５日：ノラニンジン：
　奇麗なのに可哀そうな名前もらっちゃたね。
Wild carrot からの由来だ。
似た花でレースフラワーってあるでしょ。 和名はドクゼリモドキだって。
Noraningin.
　It’s such a pretty plant, but it ended up with an unfortunate name. It comes from "wild carrot." There’s a similar flower called "Queen Anne's lace." Its Japanese name is dokuzeri modoki, meaning "false water hemlock."
　


８月２５日：ハキダメギク：
　これも可哀そうな名前です。
Hakidamegiku.
　This is another plant with an unfortunate name.
　


８月２５日：ハモンセラーノ：
　釧路でも売っていました。 良かった。
初めて行ったトライアルで。 ＴＶで取材してたトライアルゴーも魅力的だね。

Serrano ham.
　They were selling it in Kushiro as well. That's great. It was at a Trial store I visited for the first time. The Trialgo store featured in a TV show was also appealing.
　


８月２７日：いきなりステーキ：
　釧路にも、このお店がある。
この夏は値上げになって足が遠のいた。 でも今日、店頭に限定メニューの看板が出ていた。 大好きな、たっぷりチーズソース。 この写真、めっちゃ美味しそうでしょ。 とっても満足しました。

Ikinari Steak.
　There's also a branch of this restaurant in Kushiro. This summer, the prices went up, so I haven't been going as often. But today, I saw a sign at the store for a limited-time menu. My favorite, the cheese sauce with lots of cheese. Doesn't this photo look super delicious? I'm very satisfied.
　


８月２９日：鹿の家族：
　ここはジムがある湿原の風スーパーアリーナのグラウンド。
鹿の家族が草を食んでいました。 釧路ではそれほど珍しい景色ではありません。 いいね。

A Family of Deer.
　Here, on the grounds of the Super Arena at the marshland where Jim is, a family of deer was grazing on the grass. In Kushiro, this is not such an unusual sight. How lovely.
　


８月３０日：中華料理：
　久しぶりの王将で熱々の中華料理。
ジムで汗をかいてシャワーでさっぱり後、美味しいね。 毎日の生活が幸せを感じる。

Chinese Cuisine.
　Hot Chinese dishes at Ohsho after a long time. After working up a sweat at the gym and feeling refreshed with a shower, the food tastes so good. Everyday life feels full of happiness.
　


８月３０日：なると：
　小樽本店の「なると」というお店。
チキンの半身揚げで有名です。 今回は半身揚げとは別メニューをトライ。 とてもリーズナブルです。

Naruto.
　A restaurant called "Naruto" at the main store in Otaru. It is famous for its half-fried chicken. This time, I tried a different menu item instead of the half-fried chicken. It's very reasonably priced.




９月３日：快晴の釧路湿原：
　今日は東京も涼しいらしい。 釧路は秋空。日差しが強い。
運動をしているスーパーアリーナからの景色。 雌阿寒岳、雄阿寒岳が広大な湿原の向こうに良く見える。 素晴らしい景色です。

Clear Skies over Kushiro Wetland.
　Today, it's apparently cool in Tokyo as well. In Kushiro, the autumn sky is bright, and the sunlight is strong. The view from the Super Arena, where I'm exercising, is beautiful. You can clearly see Mount Meakan and Mount Oakan beyond the wetland. It's a wonderful scenery.




９月４日：春採湖の鹿：
　釧路の街中にある春採湖。
自然がいっぱい。 鹿も草を食んでいます。

The Deer of Lake Harutori
　In the middle of the city of Kushiro lies Lake Harutori, full of nature. Deer can be seen grazing on the grass.
　


９月４日：大好きなジョリーパスタ：
　美味しいね。
スープも飲み放題です。 オリーブオイルもパルメジャーノも大好きです。

My Favorite Jolly Pasta
　It’s so delicious. The soup is all-you-can-drink. I love both the olive oil and the Parmigiano.
　


９月５日：海鮮漬け丼（小）：
　トライアルのお弁当です。
ハワイのポキ丼のようなタレで漬け込んだ丼。 これがメッチャ旨い。マグロ、サーモン、イカ、玉子。 パセリと大葉、ゴマ、レモンがのる丁寧な仕事。 税込み２９９円。すご過ぎる。

Seafood Marinated Rice Bowl
　This is a bento from Trial (a supermarket). It's a rice bowl marinated in a sauce similar to Hawaii's poke bowl. It's incredibly delicious. Tuna, salmon, squid, and egg. The meticulous presentation includes parsley, shiso leaves, sesame seeds, and lemon on top. All for just 299 yen, tax included. That's amazing!
　


９月６日：カツカレー：
　セイコーマートのホットシェフ（店内料理）。
スパイシーなコクがあるカレーソース。 肉厚なとんかつがでかい。 これはなかなかの一品です。

Katsu Curry
　Seicomart's Hot Chef (in-store prepared meal). The curry sauce has a rich, spicy flavor. The thick pork cutlet is large. This is quite a remarkable dish.
　


９月６日：釧路の夕焼け：
　雲が多い時は夕日が沈んだ後の真っ赤な夕焼けが美しい。

　When there are many clouds, the deep red sunset after the sun has set is beautiful. I took this photo from my hotel room.
　


９月８日：世界三大夕日：
　それが本当かどうかはどうでもいいけれど、釧路幣舞橋からの夕日はとても奇麗です。
たくさんの観光客がいます。 快晴の秋空がいいね。

The Three Great Sunsets of the World.
　Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter, but the sunset from the Nusamai Bridge in Kushiro is incredibly beautiful. There are many tourists. A clear autumn sky is the best.




９月８日：釧路は秋：
　といっても、まだちょっと暑い。
夜は寒いです。 春採湖ネイチャーセンターにて。

It's autumn in Kushiro.
　That said, it's still a bit warm. But the nights are cold. At the Harutori Lake Nature Center.
　


９月８日：ハロウィンの準備：
　国道４４号線の花壇で大きなカボチャが実っています。
花壇を管理する人々が植えてくれました。 調べてみると、このカボチャは食べられないことはないようです。

Halloween Preparations.
　A large pumpkin is growing in the flowerbed along Route 44. The people who manage the flowerbed planted it. After looking into it, it seems that this pumpkin is edible.
　


９月１０日：サケ：
サケと人とのかかわりかた、最新の研究からわかったこと。 　道立研究機構の卜部さんの講演を受講しました。
とても興味深く勉強になった。温暖化で日本のサケが激減。 人工孵化の個体はひ弱で強く生き抜くのが困難。 孵化場にまで戻ってきてしまう。人類にも当てはまる？ 世界的にみるとサケは増えている。 さてさて日本はどうすれば良いのか。

The Relationship Between Salmon and Humans: Insights from the Latest Research 　I attended a lecture by Mr. Urabe from the Hokkaido Research Organization. It was very interesting and educational. Due to global warming, the number of salmon in Japan has drastically decreased. Artificially hatched individuals are weak and have difficulty surviving in the wild. They even return to the hatcheries. Could this also apply to humans? On a global scale, salmon populations are increasing. So, what should Japan do?
　


９月１０日：タンチョウ市場：
　釧路は和商市場が有名だけど、お隣のタンチョウ市場がリニューアル。
お客さんが少なくてのんびりできる。 美味しかったです。

Tancho Market
　Kushiro is famous for Washo Market, but the neighboring Tancho Market has been renovated. It's quiet with fewer customers, so you can relax. The food was delicious.




９月１１日：釧路の夕焼け：
　毎日色々な夕焼けを見せてくれます。
ほんの一瞬の空の芸術。

　It shows us different sunsets every day. A fleeting piece of sky art.
　


９月１２日：釧路の自動車教習所：
　信じられない程、すいている。
妻の高齢者研修です。 涼しくて、のんびりしていて最高の環境。 いいね、釧路。

The driving school in Kushiro.
　It's unbelievably uncrowded. This is for my wife's senior driver training. The cool weather and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect environment. Kushiro is great.
　


９月１２日：釧路港：
　といっても、釧路の港はたくさんあります。
ここはマリントポスや魚市場があるお魚専用の港。 名物の釧ちゃん食堂もある。 ちなみに西港や千代ノ浦港も入れると１０Kmも港が続く。

Kushiro Port.
　That being said, there are many ports in Kushiro. This one is dedicated to fish, with Marintopus and the fish market. There’s also the famous "Senchan Shokudo" restaurant. By the way, if you include West Port and Chiyonoura Port, the ports stretch for 10 kilometers.




９月１３日：春採湖ネイチャーセンター：
　ネイチャーガイドさんと記念写真。 本当にお世話になりました。
連休がありドンパクもあり来年まで会えないかも。 健康を保って、またお会いしましょう。

９月１４日：釧路大漁どんぱく：
　釧路最大のお祭りです。
天候に恵まれて気温が２０℃という爽やかさ。 本番は夜だけど昼間も賑わっています。 タレントもたくさん来釧。 美味しいものもたくさんあります。 楽しいよ。

Kushiro Tairyo Donpaku
　Kushiro's largest festival. The weather is perfect, with a refreshing temperature of 20°C. The main event is at night, but it's bustling during the day as well. Many celebrities have come to Kushiro. There’s plenty of delicious food too. It's a lot of fun!




９月１４日：どんぱく花火：
　天候に恵まれて素敵な花火大会。
見ている人達はフードを被っている。 風が吹くと寒いのです。 ３尺玉は見ている場所が良くなかった。 来年は場所を変えなくては。

Donpaku Fireworks
　We were blessed with good weather, and it was a wonderful fireworks festival. The spectators were wearing hoods. It gets cold when the wind blows. The 3-shaku-dama (giant firework) wasn’t as impressive from where we were sitting. Next year, we’ll have to choose a different spot.
　


９月１５日：フクロウの世界：
　エゾフクロウの写真を撮り続けている渡邊松子さんの講演会。
インタビュアーはFM釧路の佐藤晴美さん。 主催は釧路専門学校の大西先生。 とても興味深いお話でした。 驚いたことに私よりずっと高齢の渡邊さんは、一人で山に入り写真を撮り続けています。 もちろん熊や野生生物がたくさんいる場所。 時には木に登ったり。すごい。

The World of Owls
　A lecture by Matsuko Watanabe, who has been photographing Ural owls. The interviewer was Harumi Sato from FM Kushiro. The event was organized by Professor Onishi of Kushiro Vocational School. It was a very fascinating talk. To my surprise, Watanabe, who is much older than I am, goes into the mountains alone and continues to take photos. Of course, this is in areas where there are many bears and other wildlife. Sometimes, she even climbs trees. Amazing.
　


９月１５日：春採湖ネイチャーセンター：
　お世話になったネイチャーセンターの皆様に挨拶に行きました。
なんと鹿の皆様も現れました。 来年の夏も元気で釧路に来れたら幸せです。

Harutori Lake Nature Center
　I went to greet everyone at the Nature Center, who have been so kind to me. To my surprise, even the deer made an appearance. I would be so happy if I could visit Kushiro again, healthy and well, next summer.




９月１５日：釧路のホテル：
　お世話になっているルームアテンダンドさん。
もう何年も同じ人なのでとても安心です。 実はお部屋も同じなんです。 いいね、釧路。

　We're always taken care of by the same room attendant. It's been the same person for years, so we feel very comfortable. Actually, we're always in the same room too. Kushiro is nice.
