１月１日：元旦の富士：
　明けましておめでとうございます。
　


１月１日：福袋：
　最近あまり魅力がなくなった福袋。
元日に散歩がてら、ららぽーと柏の葉に行く。 なんと５点の服とバッグで３０００円福袋があるではないか。 パンツ２，長Tシャツ、フーディ、ジャケット。 そりゃ買うでしょうよ。

Lucky Bags
　Recently, lucky bags have become less appealing. On New Year's Day, I took a walk to LaLaport Kashiwa-no-ha. To my surprise, there was a lucky bag containing five items of clothing and a bag for just 3,000 yen. Two pairs of pants, a long-sleeve T-shirt, a hoodie, and a jacket. Of course, I had to buy it!

　コンシェルジュさん達が新年の振舞い会をやってくれた。

New Year's Hospitality
　The concierge staff held a New Year's hospitality event for us. Thank you very much!
　


１月３日：サンドイッチ：
　大好きなフランスパンのサンドイッチ。
ハモンセラーノと肉厚ポークソテーを挟みました。 贅沢だね、嬉しいね。

Sandwich.
　My favorite baguette sandwich. Stuffed with jamón serrano and thick-cut pork sauté. It feels indulgent, and it makes me happy.




１月４日：魚料理：
　西京味噌漬けのお魚を焼きました。
お正月料理も飽きたし、魚が旨すぎる。 マンションのキッチンでも煙も出さず、匂いも出ない焼き方を考えた。網を洗う必要もない。 しかも、メッチャ旨い。 目黒のさんま風に炭火でスモークして脂を落とすやり方もあるけれど、室内ではたまらないよね。 いいでしょ。

Fish Dish
　I grilled some fish marinated in Saikyo miso.
I’ve grown tired of New Year’s dishes, and the fish is just too delicious. I figured out a way to grill it in my apartment kitchen without smoke or odors. No need to wash a grill rack either. And it’s super tasty! There’s also the option of grilling it over charcoal like the famous Meguro no Sanma, letting the fat drip off with a smoky flavor, but that’s not practical indoors, right? Isn’t it great?
　


１月５日：野菜のソテー：
　冷蔵庫一掃で野菜のソテーを妻に作ってもらった。
野菜の甘さですごく美味しい。
Vegetable Sauté
　My wife made a vegetable sauté to clear out the fridge. The natural sweetness of the vegetables made it incredibly delicious.
　


１月５日：パスタ：
　色んなものを入れて明太クリームパスタを調理。
メッチャ旨い。
Pasta
　I cooked a mentaiko cream pasta with a variety of ingredients. It turned out super delicious!
　


１月５日：誕生日ケーキ：
　妻の誕生日のためにシニアマンションのレストランがこれらをプレゼント。
お友達と一緒に記念撮影。
Birthday Cake
　The restaurant at the senior residence gifted these for my wife’s birthday. She took a commemorative photo with her friends.
　


１月６日：白馬バレーシーズンパス：
　６日月曜日から、いよいよ白馬スキーだ。
このシーズンパスは北アルプス１０箇所のスキー場共通パス。 これで春まで遊べます。 いいね。 今は天候が悪くて写真がNGだけれど。

Hakuba Valley Season Pass
　Starting Monday the 6th, it’s finally time for skiing in Hakuba! This season pass is a shared pass for 10 ski resorts in the Northern Alps. With this, I can enjoy skiing all the way until spring. Sounds great! The weather isn’t great right now, so photos are a no-go for the moment, though.
　


１月７日：飯森ゲレンデ：
　白馬２日目、天候が良くない。
雪面も見ずらいので緩斜面を練習中。 五竜スキー場と４７スキー場の間に位置する飯森ゲレンデ。 トレーニングには最適です。

Iimori Slope
　On the second day in Hakuba, the weather isn't great. The snow surface is hard to see, so I’m practicing on gentle slopes. The Iimori Slope, located between Goryu Ski Resort and 47 Ski Resort, is perfect for training.
　


１月７日：アスリートスペース：
　飯森ゲレンデの休憩所にあるストレッチスペース。
注意書きには、仮眠所ではありません。 子供の遊び場ではありません。 アスリートのためのストレッチスペースです。

Athlete Space
　A stretching area located in the rest house at Iimori Slope. The sign reads: This is not a napping area. This is not a children’s play area. It is a stretching space for athletes.
　


１月８日：大雪：
　今朝の積雪。
一晩でこれだけ。 昼間も降っていてホワイトアウト状態。 スキーもやったけれど視界が悪く、すぐに山から下りる。 数日間ずっと続くみたいだね。

Heavy Snowfall.
　This morning's snow accumulation. This much fell overnight. It's been snowing during the day as well, creating whiteout conditions. I went skiing, but the poor visibility forced me to come down from the mountain quickly. It looks like this will continue for several days.
　


１月８日：ホテルディナー：
　今日の夕食はホテルで。
毎年それ程変化していない。 ステーキは美味しくなった。 パスタも良い。 マグロ、白身魚の寿司も良い。 まあまあかな・・・

Hotel Dinner
　Tonight's dinner was at the hotel. It hasn’t changed much from previous years. The steak has gotten better and was delicious. The pasta was good too. The tuna and white fish sushi were also nice. Overall, it was okay...
　


１月９日：ファミレスランチ：
　まあ、よく雪が降りますね。
雪国だから当たり前だけど。 雪で道路が通行できなくなると大変です。 去年の大雪の時はスーパーのパン売り場の棚がからっぽ。 今日も雪山に登ったけれど、深雪ホワイトアウトで早めに下りてファミレスランチ。 毎日スキーはしますよ。

Family Restaurant Lunch
　Well, it’s been snowing a lot. That’s to be expected in a snowy country, though. It’s tough when the roads become impassable due to snow. During last year’s heavy snowfall, the bread shelves at the supermarket were completely empty. Today, I climbed a snowy mountain again, but because of deep snow and a whiteout, I came down early and had lunch at a family restaurant. I ski every day, you know.
　


１月１０日：一瞬、雪がやんだ。：
　ずっと続く真白状態が１０日午前中、久しぶりの雪景色だ。
気持ちいい。 写真は八方尾根スキー場兎平。 それにしても、なんて日本人が少ないのか。 ここは外国か。

The snow stopped for a moment.
　After being in a continuous whiteout, the morning of the 10th finally brought a proper snowy landscape for the first time in a while. It feels great. The photo shows Usagidaira at Happo-one Ski Resort. Even so, there are so few Japanese people here. Is this even Japan?
　


１月１１日：佐野坂スキー場：
　土曜日の白馬はもの凄い混雑。
なのでチョットマイナーな佐野坂スキー場へ。 びっくりです。とても素敵なスキー場です。 モーグル練習バーンがたくさんある。 これは妻の練習を駒撮りしたもの。 まあ転ばないのがいいね。

Sanosaka Ski Resort
　Saturday in Hakuba was incredibly crowded. So, we decided to head to the slightly less-known Sanosaka Ski Resort. It was a pleasant surprise?what a wonderful ski resort! There are plenty of mogul practice slopes. This is a stop-motion clip of my wife practicing. Well, not falling is what matters, right?
　


１月１１日：佐野坂スキー場：
　白馬の大きなスキー場が大混雑のなか、ここは素敵でしょう？
景色も素晴らしい。 青木湖と遠く浅間山も見える。 週末はここに限る。

Sanosaka Ski Resort
　While the major ski resorts in Hakuba are packed, isn’t this place just lovely? The scenery is stunning, too. You can see Aoki Lake and even Asama Mountain in the distance. This is the perfect spot for weekends.




１月１３日：長野駅近傍に移動：
　白馬は連休でメッチャ混雑だから長野駅近くのホテルへ。
街の食事も楽しむ。 てんやの天丼、大好きな松屋の牛めし。 最近開店したバーガーキングに行ったら、外まで長蛇の列で交通整理が出ていた。 すごい人気だね。

Moved near Nagano Station.
　Hakuba is super crowded during the holiday, so I decided to stay at a hotel near Nagano Station instead. I'm also enjoying I’m also enjoying city dining. I had a tempura rice bowl at Tenya and my favorite beef bowl at Matsuya. When I went to the newly opened Burger King, there was a long line stretching outside, and traffic control staff were present. It's incredibly popular!




１月１４日：海鮮チラシ：
　ここの丼丸の海鮮は美味しい。
いつも満員のお店。 丼丸はテイクアウト専門だけど、ここは店内で食事ができる。 なぜか美味しいのです。 しかも価格は全国共通の安さ。

Seafood Chirashi.
　The seafood at this Donmaru is delicious. It's always a crowded shop. Although Donmaru is usually takeout-only, this place allows you to dine in. For some reason, it's just incredibly tasty. And yet, the prices are as affordable as anywhere else in the country.
　


１月１５日：大雪：
　今回の寒波はすごいよ。
一晩で山に降った新雪は１０５ｃｍ。 ホテルの屋根から落ちた雪で折角の雪景色が見えない。 ハハハハハ。 こういう時は雪見温泉。

Heavy Snowfall
　This cold wave is incredible. Overnight, 105 cm of fresh snow fell on the mountain. The snow sliding off the hotel roof has blocked the beautiful snowy scenery. Hahaha. At times like this, a snow-viewing hot spring is the way to go!




１月１５日：ホテルディナー：
　今日は大寒波で外出なし。
ホテルのディナーです。 外は大雪、室内は暖かい夕食。 それだけで幸せです。

Hotel Dinner
　Today, a severe cold wave kept us indoors. We’re enjoying dinner at the hotel. Snow is falling heavily outside, but inside, it’s warm and cozy. That alone makes me happy.
　


１月１６日：大雪：
　１６日朝の雪搔き
ちょっと汗をかきました。 雪国の人達は本当に大変です。 私たちのように遊び半分じゃないからね。

Heavy Snow
　Morning Snow Shoveling on the 16th I worked up a bit of a sweat. People living in snowy regions have it really tough. It’s not just for fun like it is for us.




１月１６日：パウダー：
　この雪を待っていたんだ。
ふっかふっか、楽しいよ。 みんなキャーキャー、ワーワー。 シーハイル。

Powder
　This is the snow I’ve been waiting for. Soft and fluffy?so much fun! Everyone’s screaming and cheering. Ski heil!




１月１７日：バーガーキング：
　やっと長野で大好きなバーキンが買えた。
ちょっと車で待たなければならなかったけれど。 本当にすごい人気だね。 　週末だから今日からメルキュール長野松代リゾート＆スパにいる。温泉と食事が評判です。 ちなみにビールもワインも飲み放題。

Burger King
　Finally, I was able to get my favorite BK in Nagano. I had to wait in the car for a bit, but it's really popular! 　Since it's the weekend, I'm staying at the Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa starting today. The hot springs and meals have a great reputation. By the way, beer and wine are all-you-can-drink!

　メルキュール長野松代リゾート＆スパの朝食。
これはすごい。 写真は、ほんの一部ですよ。

　The breakfast at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa is amazing. The photos show just a small portion of it!
　


１月１８日：駐車場難民：
　土曜日のスキー場はすごいよ。
佐野坂、五竜、飯森の各スキー場の駐車場は満車。 なので４７スキー場に行ってみた。 久しぶりの４７スキー場です。 私はシニアクラブの会員です。

Parking Lot Refugee
　Saturday at the ski resorts is intense! The parking lots at Sanosaka, Goryu, and Iimori ski resorts were all full. So, I decided to try 47 Ski Resort. It’s been a while since I visited 47 Ski Resort. I’m a member of the Senior Club.
　


１月１８日：五竜スキー場：
　４７スキー場から上って五竜スキー場のアルプス平を滑りました。
天気が良くて楽しかったな。 北アルプスのゲレンデを滑りまくっています。

Goryu Ski Resort
　I went up from 47 Ski Resort and skied down the Alps Daira area of Goryu Ski Resort. The weather was great, and I had so much fun. I’ve been skiing nonstop on the slopes of the Northern Alps!
　


１月１９日：モルゲンロート：
　長野松代のホテルから見た北アルプス、鹿島槍岳、五竜岳から白馬三山の朝焼けです。
ここで私たちはスキーを楽しんでいます。 この瞬間のモルゲンロートは３分間の出来事でした。

Morgenrot.
　The sunrise glow of the Northern Alps, including Mount Kashimayari and Mount Goryu to the Hakuba Three Peaks, as seen from a hotel in Matsushiro, Nagano. There, we enjoy skiing. This fleeting moment of Morgenrot lasted only three minutes.
　


１月１９日：ホテルの朝食：
　バイキングは食べ過ぎるので今朝はこれだけ。
ハモンセラーノだよ。 しかも食べ放題が出来る。 ハムも高級品。 チーズも美味しい。 バターも色々ある。 いいね。

Hotel Breakfast
　I kept it simple this morning since I tend to overeat at buffets. This is Jamón Serrano, and you can enjoy it as much as you like. The ham is top quality. The cheese is delicious, too. And there’s a variety of butter to choose from. Not bad, right?
　


１月１９日：今日は山が奇麗だ：
　八方尾根の北尾根は白馬三山にとても近い。 黒菱とスカイラインはコブが深くなっている。 滑りごたえ十分。 いいね。

The mountains are beautiful today.
　The North Ridge of Happo-One is very close to the Three Hakuba Peaks. The moguls on Kurobishi and Skyline are getting deeper. It’s a thrilling challenge to ski on. Not bad, right?




１月２１日：八方尾根こたつカフェ：
　今シーズンからの八方こたつカフェ
みかんもあるよ。

Happo Kotatsu Café.
　Starting this season, the Happo Kotatsu Café now offers mandarin oranges too!
　


１月２１日：冬眠中：
　八方尾根の最上部八方池山荘付近。
自動販売機が雪に埋まっています。 ということで冬眠中。 ここはもう北アルプスの山岳部です。

Hibernating.
　Near the top of Happo-One, around Happo-Ike Mountain Lodge. The vending machines are buried in snow. So, they are now in hibernation. This area is already part of the Northern Alps' mountainous region.
　


１月２１日：暴走禁止：
　八方尾根スキー場最上部のグラートコース。
コブだらけの斜面。 スピードを出すと体が飛ばされます。

No Reckless Speeding.
　At the top of Happo-One Ski Resort, on the Grat Course. The slope is covered with moguls. If you go too fast, you'll get thrown off balance.
　


１月２４日：ホテルのラウンジサービス：
　すごいね。
お酒好きには最高だね。 全部無料サービス。

The hotel lounge service.
　It's amazing. For those who love alcohol, it's the best. Everything is offered for free.




１月２５日：岩岳感謝祭：
　岩岳スキー場で毎年開催されます。
豚汁、お汁粉、お酒などの振る舞い。 抽選会ではマスと便利バッグが当たりました。 天気が良くてよかったね。

Iwatake Thanksgiving Festival.
　The festival is held every year at Iwatake Ski Resort. Visitors are treated to dishes such as tonjiru (pork miso soup), oshiruko (sweet red bean soup), and sake. In the lottery, we won trout and a handy bag. The weather was nice, which was great.




１月２６日：ホテルの朝食：
　久しぶりの和食です。
このオムライスの玉子がメチャクチャ旨い。 漬物とか明太子、魚、スープ、塩分が多すぎるかな。 美味しいけれどね。

Hotel Breakfast.
　It's been a while since I had Japanese food. The egg in this omelette is incredibly delicious! The pickles, mentaiko, fish, and soup might have too much salt. But they are delicious, though.
　


１月２８日：佐野坂スキー場：
　今日は朝から曇り空、時々雪。
雪面が見にくいと怖いので標高の低い佐野坂で滑る。 佐野坂スキー場は駐車場から大糸線の線路を渡って行きます。 ランチはゲレ食の豚汁定食。 駐車場の雪の壁は３ｍを越えている。 明日から大寒波、また積雪が凄くなりそうだ。

Sanosaka Ski Resort
　Today, it’s been cloudy since morning, with occasional snow. Since it’s scary when the snow surface is hard to see, I chose to ski at the lower-elevation Sanosaka. To get to Sanosaka Ski Resort, you cross the Ōito Line railway tracks from the parking lot. For lunch, I had the ski lodge's pork miso soup set meal. The snow walls in the parking lot are over 3 meters high. A major cold wave is coming tomorrow, so the snow accumulation is likely to increase significantly again.

　愛知県のスキー仲間からいただきました。
全てえびせん。 楽しみです。有難う御座いました。

Souvenir.
　I received this from my skiing friends in Aichi Prefecture. They are all shrimp crackers. I'm looking forward to enjoying them. Thank you very much!
　


１月３０日：大雪：
　ここのところずっと天気が悪い。
吹雪、視界不良、新雪。 雪面が見えれば新雪は御馳走だけれどね。 それでも、佐野坂、飯森、八方尾根のスキー場を毎日滑る。 私にとって、スキーは運動だからなるべく休まない。
写真はゲレ食のラーメン。 叉焼だけが合格点かな・・・ ファミレスのランチの方がずっと旨い。

Heavy Snow
　The weather has been bad for quite a while now. Blizzards, poor visibility, fresh snow. If I can see the snow surface, fresh snow is a treat. Even so, I ski every day at Sanosaka, Iimori, and Happo-One ski resorts. For me, skiing is exercise, so I try not to take breaks. The photo is of a bowl of ramen from the ski resort cafeteria. Only the chashu was passable... A family restaurant's lunch would be much better.




１月３１日：お金持ち風：
　自宅にも欲しい暖炉。
暖かいね。 外は雪の壁です。

Rich-looking.
　I want a fireplace like this at home, too. So warm. Outside, there are walls of snow.




２月１日：白馬４７スキー場：
　土曜日は確実に駐車できる４７スキー場で滑る。
この写真は五竜岳につながるバックカントリーエリアの案内。 もちろん新雪だらけ。

Hakuba 47 Ski Resort.
　On Saturdays, I will ski at Hakuba 47, where parking is guaranteed. This photo shows the backcountry area leading to Mt. Goryu. Of course, it's covered in fresh snow.
　


２月１日：白馬４７スキー場R2：
　整地されているR2コース。
一応上級コース。 雪けむりが奇麗だ。

　The R2 course is groomed. Technically, it's an advanced course. The snow spray looks beautiful.
　


２月１日：シニアクラブ：
　白馬４７スキー場のシニアクラブのメンバー。
三浦雄一郎さん、平沢さんの名前もある。
懐かしい櫻子さん。
今日は森川さんとお話しました。
　


２月１日：白馬４７スキー場：
　白馬４７スキー場から見た八方尾根スキー場最上部
　本当に尾根伝いに登っていくのが良く分かります。 あの冬眠中の自販機がある場所です。 手前の雪の壁は割れ目がたくさんあって今にも雪崩が起きそうです。

　You can clearly see how the route follows the ridgeline. That’s the place with the vending machine hibernating for the winter. The snow wall in the foreground has many cracks, looking as if an avalanche could happen at any moment.
　


２月３日：熊本土産：
　スキー仲間からお土産をいただきました。
熊本のドーナツ棒。 スキー仲間は日本全国にいます。 毎年お会いできるのを楽しみにしております。

Kumamoto Souvenir
　I received a souvenir from a skiing friend?Kumamoto's Donut Sticks. I have skiing friends all over Japan. I look forward to seeing them every year.
　


２月４日：中澤不二雄：
　祖父の中学時代の写真を見つけました。
何と１１７年前の記事です。

Fujio Nakazawa.
　I found a photo of my grandfather from his middle school days. It’s from an article published 117 years ago!
　


２月６日：大雪：
　とうとう５ｍを超えた。 新雪が８０センチ。埋まる。

気温が低いのでサラサラの超パウダー深雪。 フワフワで最高、上質の滑りができる。 ただ唯一の欠点は雪面が見にくい。 そして手が冷たい。ゴーグルとメットの僅かな隙間からの冷気が痛い。 リフトから降りると全身雪ダルマ状態。その姿を写真に撮りたいけれど手袋をはずせない。

私にとってのスキーはフィットネスなので、リフトが営業している限りは雪山に登ります。 でも、今日はあまりの寒さですぐに降りてきて温泉。 ゲレンデにはかなりのスキーヤー、ボーダーがいる。特にオーストラリア人の子供達がすごいよ。急斜面を乱暴に降りてくる。もちろん最後にはインストラクターがいる。 日本だと怪我をさせたら責任問題。白人社会は違うのかな。
　


２月６日：降雪：
　今日は安全のために標高の低い飯森スキー場で滑る。
ほんの数分のリフトに乗っただけなのに雪だるま状態。 それでも新雪のフワフワ感は素敵です。

Snowfall.
　For safety reasons, I’ll be skiing at the lower-altitude Iimori Ski Resort today. Even though I was only on the lift for a few minutes, I ended up covered in snow like a snowman. Still, the fluffy feel of the fresh snow is wonderful.




２月６日：ローソン弁当：
　何でも値上げの世の中で大盛りのCMしているローソン。
その気持ちが嬉しくてお弁当を購入。 大盛りはすぐに売り切れらしいけれど、これもかなりボリュームあり。 それにとても美味しかった。

Lawson Bento.
In a world where everything is getting more expensive, Lawson is promoting large portions in their commercials. I appreciated that sentiment and decided to buy a bento. The large-size ones seem to sell out quickly, but this one still had plenty of volume. And it was absolutely delicious.
　


２月９日：大雪過ぎる：
　積雪がとうとう６ｍを越えた。
こんなシーズン初めてです。 但し、この週末から自宅に帰っています。 春節、連休、確定申告の理由。 いろいろやることがあって忙しいです。

Heavy Snowfall
　The accumulated snow has finally exceeded 6 meters. This is the first time I've experienced such a season. However, I have returned home since this weekend. The reasons are the Lunar New Year, the long weekend, and tax filing. I have many things to do and am quite busy.
　


２月９日：ローソン：
　４７％増量だよ。
ローソンの傑作、プレミアムロールケーキが最高。

Lawson.
　It's 47% bigger! Lawson's masterpiece, the Premium Roll Cake, is the best.




２月１０日：確定申告：
　いつものように近くの税務署に。
最近はスマホでやる人が多いらしい。 でも、なんか税務署に行く方が人間ぽくっていい。 今年は減税があるので、還付が源泉所得税と同じ。 つまり所得税が０円。初めてです。

Tax Return.
　As usual, I went to the nearby tax office. These days, many people file their taxes using their smartphones. But somehow, going to the tax office feels more human. This year, due to a tax reduction, my refund is the same as the withholding income tax. In other words, my income tax is zero. This is the first time that's happened.
　


２月１１日：バケットサンド：
　大好きなバケットにフランクフルトソーセージを挟む。
もちろん野菜もチーズも入れたい。 メッチャ美味しい。 パリパリバケットが凄く旨い。

Baguette Sandwich
　I put a frankfurter sausage in my favorite baguette. Of course, I also want to add vegetables and cheese. It’s super delicious. The crispy baguette tastes amazing!
　


２月１２日：ローソン倍盛り：
　今回のローソン盛りすぎ！は、かき揚げ２倍。
なぜローソン好きかと言えば、自宅マンションのお隣りに店舗があるからです。 だから外出する度に、立ち寄りします。はい。

Lawson Double Portion.
　This time, Lawson's "Too Much Serving!" features twice the amount of kakiage. The reason I like Lawson is that there's a store right next to my apartment building. That's why I stop by every time I go out. Yes.
　


２月１５日：マイナンバー更新：
　電子証明書の更新だって。
まだ一度も使っていないのに・・・・

My Number update.
　It’s about renewing the electronic certificate. I haven’t even used it once yet...

　大好きなワッパーです。

　このチーズケーキ、見栄えは良いけれど・・・

２月１５日：美食：
　美味しそうなものは良いよね。
前菜は購入したもの。 ステーキは安いお肉を低温調理。 考えられない柔らかさ美味しさ。 レストランやれば絶対大ヒット。 でも、やらない。

Gourmet Food.
　Delicious-looking food is always great. The appetizer was store-bought. The steak was a cheap cut, cooked sous vide. Unbelievably tender and delicious. If I opened a restaurant, it would be a huge hit. But I won’t.




２月１６日：バラちらし：
　安いバラの刺身を熟成させて美味しくさせます。
このバラちらしは、メッチャ美味しい。 いいよ。

Barachirashi.
　We age inexpensive mixed sashimi to enhance its flavor. This barachirashi is super delicious. It’s really good!




２月１６日：１０割蕎麦：

　I made super delicious soba using Kaldi’s 100% buckwheat noodles. The taste and texture of soba can change significantly depending on how you boil and rinse it in cold water. It’s fun and delicious!
